Who would’ve thought
That the way Mr. Kurpis taught
Is so different from others
You’ll never see any nappers
Multiple multiple choice for example
Is not something students usually have to handle
From eggs to Legos
It helped our “vision” grow
From this class I must say
My management skills are no longer the same
I realized that management really matters
Mr.Kurpis, no professor can do better!

SAYY WHATT
In the beginning, I was actually excited to write in the blog. I used to have a blog when the Xanga trend started. Haha I enjoyed all the topics the professor told us to write about but due to my procrastination, I always end up writing it an hour before the deadline. I feel that if I didn’t procrastinate, I would’ve wrote my blog entries more in depth. I also read the topic assignment ahead of time but when I actually sat down to type it, I was always in a rush and forget what I really wanted to write.
I think this blog benefited me a lot. I enjoyed really other student’s blogs. I liked reading about their thoughts, especially when they are really different from mines. Different aspects and perceptions interest me. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue posting on blogs.. I really like that idea.. but knowing me, I doubt it. Even though I’m not much of a blogger, I do think the blog should remain a component of this course. It gives us students something different to do to earn our grade, rather than the typical reading and doing assignments. I really enjoyed this class and I’m glad I listened to ratemyprofessor.com and chose Professor Kurpis as my MGT professor. Thanks professor! You’ve made my semester really enjoyable.

I LIKEEE PICKLES! four to be exact.
I went to McDonald's after work on a Sunday afternoon. Boy, was I glad it wasn't crowded that day. As I waited on line, I tried to think of ways the cashier would respond to my ridiculous order. What if she says "No, sorry mam this can't be done?", or makes a weird face? What if the person behind me heard me and thinks I'm crazy? Luckily it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. When I placed my order, the cashier just looked at me and repeated "hamburger with four pickles and French fries with no salt?" When I said yes, she took my $2.12 and went straight to the back where the guy makes the burger and said something I couldn't hear. I assume she was telling him my "special burger with four pickles." She then went to the deep fryer that was cooking a batch of fries, took them out, put them in the pan, and then put them in a small French fries sleeve. When my hamburger was ready, she put the hamburger and the fries in the bag and handed it me.
Three people got involved with my special order, the cashier, the guy that made my burger and the supervisor. The supervisor got involved because it didn't have any proof that I ordered four pickles on the receipt, so when I went back to the cashier to ask her to add the "four pickles", that was when she looked at me weirdly. She wasn't sure how to add the "four pickles" onto the receipt so she asked her supervisor. The supervisor said there's nothing he can do but write it on the receipt with his signature and of course, I accepted his offer. The complete order took less than 5 minutes but including the whole situation with having the four pickles on the receipt, it made up 5 minutes. The staff was friendly and even though the order sounded ridiculous to me, it didn't seem to affect her.
If I would rate the staff's manufacturing (order preparation) I would give her 9/10 because she did spend a while in the back talking to the guy about the order. I would also give the communications and coordination a rate of 9/10 because they got things done and there weren't any complications or questions in it. I would give the customer service 10/10 because they actually listed to me when I requested them to put extra pickles on the receipt, rather than just shrug me off and say it can't be done. If I were a consultant I would probably suggest them not to add salt to the fries. It's not often that they're making a new batch of fries. If you weren't lucky, you probably would have to wait on it and people shouldn't be waiting when it comes to fast food. Overall, I don't think the assignment was as hard as I thought it would be. It was definitely an experience and was actually fun.

Becky the Dominant
The Personal Profile System says I'm the D, dominance. I’m not too sure how true that is. Sure, I get stubborn sometimes and will do my best to get what I want. I also like taking authority but its not always like that. Sometimes I just feel sitting back and have others tell me what to do. If I can, I wish I was more an I. When I think of influence, I see a person with a strong voice of persuasion. I admire those who can get everyone to quiet down and listen to them when they speak. I think I can work my way to that type but it will take a lot of work and practice.
I think it’s helpful to determine people’s management “type” to better understand where they are coming from because it can help prevent some misunderstanding. Some might mistaken a D person for being bossy when its really because the person wants to get immediate result and tends to work in a faster pace. I think test like this can help in other personal interactions like relationships. For example, a D person would most likely be the dominant partner in the relationship and an S person tends to try to always talk things out when situations get complicated.
