My group and I started off calm during the planning process. Our goal was to keep the egg safe and the first thing that came to mind was to secure it. We knew what our resources was and we even went up couple of times to get a feel of the materials. My group had a lot of suggestions and that was a good thing. I guess the bad thing was that none of us were artistic. :x None of us could really draw so we couldn't really get each other to understand what we were thinking. We knew we had a limited of time to plan it out and that was when we started to get nervous and started to rush through things.
We did the strength and weakness of each other's suggestions on how to protect the egg and in the end we just gathered everyone's idea and made it into one. I can say that we did all the steps on the planning process but should have spent more. I think we could have been more effective if we didn't feel rushed and actually had the materials to work with since none of us could draw.

I agree with you that lack of time was the most important issue during this exercise. In addition, we were not familiar with most of the people on our team so we needed some time to identify each other's strengths and weaknesses. It is unfortunate that no one on your team could draw, which made it even more complicated for you in terms of communicating your ideas. My group was similar to yours in that we also had a lot of ideas for the contraption and we had to choose only one at the end, the one that made the most sense. After reading your post, I now wonder if your egg survived!
Becky,
You are talking about procrastination in all of your three posts. So, it looks like time management is your biggest problem of all. Have you tried to create time budgets for yourself? Do you have a weekly planner where you write down all the things that you want to do and all things that you have to do, and then try to arrange them in a manner that would maximize the use of your time?
I know that procrastination is a common problem of students. We simply have too many quizzes, projects, essays, papers, etc. in the short period of 4 months. Add to it house errands, job responsibilities, family members, and friends. Plus, you are not a machine and you need to rest on a regular basis. All of the above mentioned wants a piece of our time and there are only 168 hours in a week. I say, planning usually helps. However, if you tried to plan your week and it didn't work for you, there are other, less orthodox, approaches to deal with procrastination. If you have time ... : ) check out this website http://www.structuredprocrastination.com/
Your gropu was similar to mine. All the memebers had different ideas, and we all took the best points of each one and made it into the most effective and efficient plan. You also mentioned that no one was artistic in your group, but in this case i think that this skill was the least needed, because so what you can't draw something you have in mind, as long as you can make it and it works then that matters. At least you all contributed to the project, and just because made you all kind of equal since it wasnt something extremly difficult.
It is a very interesting situation with no one being able to draw. I don't think it would be hard to draw lines to represent straws. A solution for visualizing the model that my group came up with was that we gathered our pens and showed what our different ideas were. The pens represented the straws. Having a lot of ideas and combining the best parts of the ideas is interesting as well. It sounds like your egg drop was successful, if your group had a lot of good ideas?
The time contstraint we had wasn't bad. I feel that maybe we were given too much time which made it hard to turn in a final idea. Regardless your group came together to work and create an object which was your final goal. Maybe not being able to draw limited the group in creating an object but the group did their best with what they had which is most important.
Sorry to hear that none of your teammates could draw a picture. It looks like you guys failed to protect the egg but this could be a very good experience on how to plan and elaborate effectively in the future. Hope you guys will get the extra points next time. good luck.
It's amazing how those details matter. Someone that could have actually drawn the idea to illustrate the layout for the protection could have made this experiment possibly a success. This clearly showcases how important team work and great team members are. In a situation where it's not just about an egg but a much bigger project such team members become vital. This reminds me of a story I heard about Madonna. She knew exactly who would be able to get her to the top and so she created a power team and basically hand picked each member...
